Bikini waxing

What to expect at your Brazilian wax

A Brazilian removes all hair from the entire pubic region: the mound, the labia, the perineum and between the buttocks. You can keep a small landing strip or triangle in front, or go completely bare, which some people call a Hollywood. Tell us what you want kept and we shape it. Full buttock cheeks are available as an add-on.

The skin here is the most delicate we wax, which is why we never use strip wax on it. ITALWAX film wax is applied in small sections at a low working temperature, sets into a flexible film in seconds and lifts in one piece, taking the hair and leaving the skin. Because it sticks only to hair, we can safely go back over a spot that needs it. That is the difference between a Brazilian that is sharp for a few seconds at a time and one that leaves you red for a day.

Your first visit is the longest and the most sensitive. Most first-timers rate it a 4 out of 5; by the second or third visit it is usually a 3, the appointment is quicker, and the hair comes back finer and sparser. We serve women and men, and the process is the same: private, draped, unhurried.

What to expect during your appointment

Intake

A few quiet questions: medications, skin conditions, pregnancy, where you are in your cycle, and what shape you would like to keep. If it is your first time, say so. We go slower.

Undress in private, then drape

You undress from the waist down with the door closed and lie on a draped table. Only the working area is ever uncovered.

Cleanse and protect

Pre-wax lotion cleanses the skin, then a thin barrier of pre-wax oil protects it so the wax grips hair, not skin.

Front first, in small sections

Film wax goes on the top of the mound first, then the sides and labia with your knees bent and apart, or one knee drawn up. Each section sets for a few seconds and lifts in one flexible piece. The skin is held taut by your esthetician, and sometimes by you.

Then the back

For the back, you turn onto your side or briefly onto your knees. This part is quick and far less sensitive than most people expect.

Tweeze, calm, rebook

Strays are tweezed, after-wax oil removes residue and soothes, and we go over the first 48 hours. Most guests rebook four to five weeks out before they leave.

Comfort level: First visit, most guests say 4 out of 5: a sharp sting with each section, seconds long. From the second visit it is usually a 3, and regulars often describe it as easy. Film wax applied warm is markedly more comfortable than strip wax here.

Please reschedule if

  • You have sunburn, open cuts, a rash or broken skin on the area.
  • You have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last six months.
  • You have used a prescription retinoid or strong acid on the area in the last week.
  • You have had laser, a chemical peel, microdermabrasion or dermaplaning on the area within two weeks.
  • You have an active genital infection, herpes outbreak, yeast infection or symptoms of BV.
  • You have had chemotherapy or radiation without clearance from your physician.

Aftercare for the first 48 hours and beyond

For 24 to 48 hours: no sex, no hot baths, hot tubs, saunas, pools or the ocean, no gym or sweaty activity, no tight clothing or thongs, no sun or tanning, and nothing fragranced on the area. Loose cotton underwear, a cool compress if the skin feels warm, and an over-the-counter pain reliever if you want one. Mild redness and small bumps are normal and settle within hours to a day. Do not touch or pick.

From day three, start gentle exfoliation two to three times a week and keep the skin moisturized. An ingrown-hair serum with salicylic or glycolic acid, used a few times a week, is the single most effective habit for keeping the area clear between visits.

Do not shave between appointments; it resets the growth cycle and makes the next wax patchy. Rebook every four to five weeks. If redness lasts more than two days, or you notice swelling, pus or significant pain, see a healthcare provider.

Why waxing, and why here

Weeks of smooth where it matters most

No stubble, razor bumps or cuts in the most irritation-prone area. Dermatologists recommend leaving this one to professionals.

Film wax, not strips

ITALWAX film wax sets into a flexible film that grips every hair and lifts in one piece, leaving the skin alone. Applied warm, never hot.

Explained, private, unhurried

One guest at a time, draped throughout, every step described before it happens. First-timers get extra time at no extra cost.

Myths, retired

A Brazilian causes loss of sensation or loosens the skin.Neither is true. The skin is supported for every lift and nothing below the surface is affected.
Shaving the day before helps. It makes the wax useless. Hair needs to be about a quarter inch for the wax to grip.
A drink beforehand takes the edge off.Alcohol thins the blood and raises sensitivity. Skip it, along with caffeine, on the day.
You cannot get a Brazilian while pregnant.Generally you can. Tell us, and we adapt positioning and take extra care.
Hair grows back thicker after waxing. It does not. Hair type is set by the follicle. Regrowth after waxing is often finer and sparser because the hair is removed at the root and the growth cycle is reset.

Brazilian questions

How long should hair be for a Brazilian wax?

About a quarter inch, roughly the length of a grain of rice, which is usually two to three weeks of growth after shaving. Shorter and the wax cannot grip; longer and we trim it for you at the studio.

Does a Brazilian wax hurt?

Expect some discomfort, especially the first time, which most guests rate 4 out of 5. ITALWAX film wax grips hair rather than skin and sets warm, not hot, so it is gentler than strip wax, and discomfort drops with regular four to five week visits.

How often should I get a Brazilian wax?

Every four to five weeks. Results last three to five weeks depending on your growth cycle, and consistent waxing leads to finer, sparser regrowth and quicker appointments.

What is the difference between a Brazilian and a Hollywood?

A Brazilian traditionally leaves the option of a small strip or triangle in front. A Hollywood is completely bare. Tell us what you want kept and we shape it.

Do I have to be fully undressed?

Waist down only, with draping throughout. You undress in private with the door closed.

What positions will I be in?

Lying back with knees bent and apart, or one leg drawn up, for the front. Turning onto your side or briefly kneeling for the back. Your esthetician explains each one before you move.

Can I get a Brazilian wax on my period?

Yes, with a tampon or menstrual cup. Sensitivity is higher that week, so the first two weeks after your period are the most comfortable if you have the choice.

Can I get a Brazilian while pregnant?

It is generally considered safe. Tell us when you book so we can adjust positioning, and ask your provider first if your pregnancy is high-risk.

When can I have sex, work out or swim?

Wait 24 to 48 hours for all three. Friction, sweat, chlorine and salt irritate open follicles.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs after a Brazilian?

Gentle exfoliation two to three times a week from day three, daily moisturizer, an ingrown serum if you are prone, loose cotton underwear, and no picking.

Do you offer men’s Brazilian waxing?

Yes, by appointment, with the same private, draped, explained-every-step process. Coarser hair may sit toward the top of the range.

How do you keep it hygienic?

A fresh spatula for every single dip, so wax is never double-dipped. Gloves, single-use sheets, a licensed esthetician, and a wax warmer temperature-checked before every service.
